Terkku Hanke – Cultural Mediation Training by HEED Finland

As part of TERKKU Hanke, HEED Finland facilitated cultural mediation training, a supplementary training for professionals of an immigrant /multicultural background in health and social services.  The training aimed to strengthen professionals´ competence in multiculturally sensitive work, to strengthen participants ‘ability to use their multicultural background and competence in their work, and to provide tools for dealing with different multicultural clients and ways of dealing with racism in the workplace.  The trainer was the Chairperson of HEED Finland, a Senior lecturer in the Department of Nursing at Laurea University of Applied Sciences, with many years of experience in multicultural work in the health and social sector.  The training was held virtually in the spring of 2020 due to covid 19 and face-to-face in the spring of 2021.  A follow-up training session was also held in the spring of 2022.  The participants’ feedback was excellent, emphasizing the need for more training in the future.
